CPRA FINALS & PAGEANT

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

STALLS are available for all contestants at the Fair Grounds.  The stalls are $30.00, which covers both Friday and Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon, each additional day is $5.00/day.  You cannot tie your horse to your trailer or set up a portable pen at the Fair Grounds.  All horses will be required to be in stalls or will have to be loaded and leave the grounds.  When you check in at the Finals you will be charged for your stalls, please have cash ready for these fees.  One horse per stall.  Any charges for violations on the Fair Grounds will be billed to the CPRA,  so please follow all instructions.

 

The arena should be available for practice Friday afternoon.  Please be flexible due to the need for the stock contractor to run stock and work the arena before the rodeo! There is also a covered practice arena available for you to work your horse in when the enclosed arena is not available.

CLOTHING GUIDELINES:  Please wear a Western Dress for the modeling, impromptu, speech and interview portion of the competition.  You will wear jeans and a western or pageant style shirt during Horsemanship and can bring your choice of jean/shirt outfits for the rodeo performances. Long sleeves, cowboy hat, belt and boots are required at all times.

 

 

SPEECH TOPIC: Speeches for Miss and Princess should be 1-2 minutes in length, Little Miss speeches are 20 seconds to 1 minute, and include the topic of Rodeo.  No props are allowed. Any other specifics are up to the contestant. 

 

 

JUDGES: 

Jana Dreasher

Jana knows about competition. Her horse career began when she won her very first horse at the age of 10 thru a 4-H essay contest. Her prize was a yearling tobiano paint filly so she learned to ride and train a young horse all at the same time. Jana grew up showing in 4-H and open shows. She is knowlegeable in Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, English Equitation, Reining and Trail. She has extensive training experience having worked for Our Pleasure Quater Horses in Nacodoches, TX as an assistant trainer and the Hofferosa Ranch in Auburn, Kansas, home of many AQHA and Buckskin world champion halter horses. Jana has held rodeo queen titles such as 1996 Miss Douglas County Rodeo, 1997 Miss Thomas County Rodeo, 1998 Miss rodeo McCracken, and was 1st runner up in the 2000 Miss Rodeo Kansas contest. Currently, she works full time for Farm Bureau in Rossville, KS and gives riding lessons, judges open and 4-H horse shows and competes in Barrel Racing in both the NBHA and the KBRA.


JD Dreasher

JD Dreasher has been around horses most of his life. As a feed salesman for many years he brings a tremendous amount of knowledge of the Purina Products and how horse nutrition affects health. In addition to owning and operating Double J Performance Horses located In Eskridge, KS with his wife, Jana, JD recently became an Agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services. He has judged other rodeo queen pagaents including Miss Rodeo K-State, Junction City, United Rodeo Association and the Kansas High School Rodeo queen contest.

Stephanie Sanderson

Stephanie Sanderson is a graduate of Fort Hays State with a BS in Animal Science.  She held the title of Miss CPRA in 2004, Miss Rodeo Kansas 1st runner up 2007.  She has a passion for horses, rodeo and travel. Stephanie competed in pageants for many years and has had the honor of judging other pageants in Kansas. She currently resides in Schoenchen, Kansas.

 

MEALS: Breakfast and lunch on Saturday are on your own.  We will provide food for the appreciation dinner on Saturday after the afternoon portion of the contest. This will also be the time we announce the drawing winners from the tickets sold by the contestants.

 

 

WELCOME BASKETS & Gift Exchange: We like to welcome the contestants with a basket full of goodies that they can use during and after the pageant.  It has also become a tradition for the contestants to bring something to exchange with the other girls.  During orientation Friday night at the rodeo the girls can meet the other contestants and exchange SMALL tokens as a way to share their personality and get to know each other.  We will also answer any questions you have about the pageant events during orientation.  If you have questions concerning the Welcome Gift Exchange please let me know.

RODEO: The new Miss CPRA will carry the American Flag at the Finals performance Grand Entry on Saturday night.  The new CPRA Princess will carry the CPRA flag. If Miss Rodeo Kansas is present she will carry the American flag for the National Anthem. Outgoing royalty will run victory laps and work the arena Friday night and newly crowned royalty will run victory laps and work the arena Saturday night and Sunday.

 

All contestants are required to ride in the Saturday night Grand Entry after the coronation, so don’t run off!
