STALLS are available for all contestants at the Fair Grounds. The stalls are $30.00, which covers both Friday and Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon, each additional day is $5.00/day. You cannot tie your horse to your trailer or set up a portable pen at the Fair Grounds. All horses will be required to be in stalls or will have to be loaded and leave the grounds. When you check in at the Finals you will be charged for your stalls, please have cash ready for these fees. One horse per stall. Any charges for violations on the Fair Grounds will be billed to the CPRA, so please follow all instructions.
The arena should be available for practice Friday afternoon. Please be flexible due to the need for the stock contractor to run stock and work the arena before the rodeo! There is also a covered practice arena available for you to work your horse in when the enclosed arena is not available.
HOST HOTEL: Most hotels seem to be booked due to a softball tournament in town the same weekend. We will have open rooms available at the Kansas State Fair Grounds for $10 per person per night. They are very basic and not private rooms, but the bathrooms are newly renovated with lots of plugs and mirrors. Call Amanda with questions at 316-734-9527.
CLOTHING GUIDELINES: Please wear a Western Dress for the modeling, impromptu, speech and interview portion of the competition. You will wear jeans and a western or pageant style shirt during Horsemanship and can bring your choice of jean/shirt outfits for the rodeo performances. Long sleeves, cowboy hat, belt and boots are required at all times.
SPEECH TOPIC: Speeches for Miss and Princess should be 1-2 minutes in length and include the topic of Rodeo. No props are allowed. Any other specifics are up to the contestant. Little Miss contestants are not required to do a speech.
JUDGES:
Megan Strickler: Grew up on a cattle ranch in southeast Kansas. Around horses her entire life and riding since she was 5 years old. Trains and runs barrel horses and also takes part in women's ranch rodeo and team roping. Megan became involved with equine massage therapy in 2003 and has now been providing therapy to horses for 5 years.
Anna Luna: Currently the coordinator of the
Plainville Saddle Club Queens and Princess Contests. Graduate of Fort Hays
State, who majored in Agriculture with a minor in Communications. Worked at
Liberty Ranch for six years and then at Midland Marketing COOP in Plainville.
Married and lives on a ranch raising cattle and horses.
Kelly Casey: Resides in Tonganoxie, KS. Has shown western pleasure horses in AQHA and the Kansas State Horse Show Circuit (KSHSC) for over 23 years. Recently took over as the Vice President of KSHSC. Former Central Plains Rodeo Association queen and Abdallah Shrine Rodeo Queen. Currently works for Leavenworth County Development Corporation and will finish her Marketing degree in December 2008.
MEALS: Breakfast and lunch on Saturday are on your own. We will provide food for the appreciation dinner on Saturday after the afternoon portion of the contest. This will also be the time we announce the drawing winners from the tickets sold by the contestants.
WELCOME BASKETS & Gift Exchange: We like to welcome
the contestants with a basket full of goodies that they can use during and after
the pageant. It has also become a tradition for the contestants to bring
something to exchange with the other girls. During orientation Friday night at the
rodeo the girls can meet the other contestants and exchange SMALL
tokens as a way to share their
personality and get to know each other. We will also answer any questions you
have about the pageant events during orientation. If you have questions
concerning the Welcome Gift Exchange please let me know.

RODEO: Miss CPRA 2009 will carry the American Flag at the Finals performance Grand Entry on Saturday night. CPRA Princess 2009 will carry the CPRA flag. If Miss Rodeo Kansas is present she will carry the American flag for the National Anthem. Outgoing royalty will run victory laps and work the arena Friday night and newly crowned royalty will run victory laps and work the arena Saturday night. 2009 royalty will perform flag presentations and victory runs on Sunday.
All contestants are required to ride in the Saturday night Grand Entry after the coronation, so don’t run off!
